General information

Background: Located on the northern edge of the Cleveland Hills about nine miles south of Middlesbrough. It serves an area of approximately 300 square kilometres, mostly within North Yorkshire, but also attracts pupils from outside the catchment area. Founded in 1958, the school has a co-located sixth form college and an integrated community education service. Its excellent facilities include a well-stocked library, sixth-form study area, computer rooms, modern science laboratories, on-site leisure centre and all-weather pitch; a new building of 12 classrooms and two laboratories opened in April 2004. The school offers a broad curriculum and a wide range of extra-curricular activities such as music, drama, the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, sport, chess and a youth club. There is a clear system of sanctions. Support systems are in place to monitor pupils. A new student?s support centre was created in September 2005. Specialist Technology College Status. Schools Curriculum Award (2000); Sportsmark; DfES Achievement Award (2001). 'The school aims to have respect for people, values and the environment. It has high expectations of pupils and works together with parents to help them achieve their full potential.' .
