General information

Background: Clipston Endowed Voluntary Controlled Primary School and hospital was planned and financed by Sir George Buswell in 1667, the year of his death, and completed in 1673. The school is built of Northamptonshire stone and is now a grade second listed building. In 1926 the trustees of this school decided to rebuild parts of the school which were in disrepair and to build cottages for poor people on land to the west of the school, to replace the Old Hospital. In 1975 the school was remodelled and all its running costs came under the control of Northamptonshire county council, while the trustees retained the responsibility for the fabric of the building. Additional classrooms with kitchen, hall and store room. The school possesses a fine playing field over looking a typical rural scene. In 1993 the kitchen area, following the closure of the school meals service, was transformed into an independent pre-school unit and in 1997 according to the Sunday times school?s review, Clipston was 37th of best primary schools in the country. In September 1999 the school benefited from having a new reception class and cloakroom area built on to the existing hall. In the year 2000 the school association committee landscaped the school gardens. In the year 2003, plans are being developed to provide improve library, computer, office and early years facilities. Creative workshops for music and drama are organised along with visits from accomplished poets, writers, artists and craftspeople. The school has a group of parents and teachers who meet informally, and usually at a local pub, to organise fundraising and social events throughout the year. The school aims to serve its community by providing education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice.
