General information

Background: Ecton Brook Middle School opened in 1982 in purpose-built accommodation serving Eastern Northampton. Pupils have the option of participating in extra-curricular sports, such as football, hockey, netball and basketball. In addition there is a choir, orchestra, chess and a gifted mathmaticians group and music teachers visit the school to teach children instruments. The choir is a 'regular' winner at the Northampton Dance and Music Festival and reached the final 500 in the Millennium Voices of Promise competition. The school's samba band won at the Northampton Festival and each year pupils take part in residential visits at home and abroad. Ecton Brook's 'extremely active' Community Action Team works in the local community in a variety of ways depending on how they can be of assistance. In the past this has included litter picking, befriending senior citizens, running errands, fundraising, organising coffee mornings and Christmas dinners for over 70 guests. The school raises money for 'numerous' charities and each Christmas the choir sings in aid of the Save the Children fund. The 'thriving' Parents' Association is a 'valued part of the school community', fundraising and providing an open forum for discussing points of common interest between parents and teachers. 'Strong' links have been established with the upper and lower schools in the area to faciltiate pupils' transition through their school career. The school is oversubscribed.
