General information

Background: Old Stratford Primary School was founded in 1966 in a small village close to the border of Northamptonshire, North Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes. The village of Old Stratford dates back to Roman times when a fort guarded the ford across the Great Ouse River. Just over three quarters of the pupils live in the village, with the rest drawn from more distant villages and towns. The school was expanded with two new classrooms and a library in 1998. There is also a information and communication technology (ICT) centre with a networked computer suite which is used to train staff and adults from the wider community. The school received an Education Extra Distinction Award in 1997 for its range of after-school clubs, which include music groups, French, chess, stamp club, First Aid training and gardening. It has also received awards for its community work. Links with the village include a programme of educational visits and invitations for visitors to speak to pupils. Children choose charities to support each year, which have in the past included Willen Hospice and Hearing dogs for the Deaf.
