General information
Background: St Thomas More is situated in 'beautiful grounds' on the outskirts of Kettering. Facilities include a hall, a library, a computer suite, a music room and a pottery room. Music is important in the school and the school choir performs in church. In 1998 pupils performed a junior version of Mozart's Magic Flute. Visits to the theatre, and visiting musicians, artists and puppeteers, are all regular features of school life. Year 6 pupils learn French, with the option of also learning German and Italian. There is a Saturday morning sports club and the netball team were winners of their league in 1999. Athletics, swimming and cycling are amongst the other sports on offer, and Year 6 pupils cycle the 25 miles around Rutland Water. There are links with local churches and the school is used by Brownies, Beavers, the local badminton group and others. Children at the school have been actively involved in fund-raising for charities including UNICEF, CAFOD, LEPRA and Comic Relief, and a substantial amount of money was also raised for the local hospital. The school is over-subscribed with three applicants for every place.
