General information

Background: Victoria Junior School is close to the centre of the town of Wellingborough in Northamptonshire. The school was built in 1896 and is housed in a 'beautiful' Victorian building with a playground and garden. As well as academic subjects, the school offers extra-curricular activities like football, netball, chess, recorder club and Indian dancing. Sport involves elements of outdoor adventure, athletics and dance as well as games. The school cricket team won the East Northamptonshire kwik cricket tournament to reach the county finals. They also performed at the cricket world cup match between Pakistan and Bangladesh. The school celebrates the multicultural backgrounds of the pupils in such events as a West Indian evening and Indian evenings. In order to make the curriculum 'more interesting, relevant and beneficial', the pupils are 'frequently' taken on local trips. The school 'prides itself' on its pupils, a few of whom have excelled in poetry and essay writing at national level. The school aims to promote a 'caring and happy environment in which children feel confident and secure about themselves and others'. To further this aim, the school believes that 'education is a partnership' and welcomes parents and friends into school.
