General information

Background: Burford School is unique in being a comprehensive school, community college and having a boarding house. The school founded by Charter in 1571 and has been maintained continuously since that date. The present site was first used in 1949, when Burford Grammar School was enlarged, forming in effect Oxfordshire's first ?comprehensive' school. The school continues to be supported by its foundation and the school provides education for over 1100 girls and boys, including a large sixth form of more than 200 students. It has an extensive and spacious site, well provided with sports fields, tennis courts and a modern sports hall. The school also provides library, computer, music suites, technology workshops, science laboratories and specialist teaching rooms all combine in providing up to date facilities for its pupils well able to meet the changes and development needed in modern teaching. It enjoys considerable local support. There is collective feeling of pride for the school and enormous staff loyalty with a constant determination to further the well-being of all the pupils. The school aims to create the best working environment for all students and staff in order to allow effective teaching and learning to take place.
