General information

Background: John Blandy VC Primary School was first established in 1735 by John Blandy, squire of the village and Lord of the Manor of Kingston Bagpuize. He and his son left money for the education of navigation to boys who wished to go to sea. The present school buildings were opened in 1968 and consist of five classrooms, a hall, work areas, a library area, changing rooms and a kitchen. Later in 1968, a swimming pool was added. These buildings were opened by Professor John Blandy, as was the nursery extension in 1996. The grounds contain two playgrounds, sports fields, a pond and two environmental study areas. The school participates in sports competitions with other schools. The Friends of John Blandy raise funds and organise community events such as fetes, the village quiz and the village bonfire. Children at the school have raised money for a variety of causes including Cancer Research, Readathon and Kosovo. .
