General information

Background: The school moved to its present site 30 years ago, when it became fully comprehensive. Its buildings are a mixture of styles and ages, but provide 'good quality' accommodation. Larkmead benefits from a modern library and resources centre, three networked ITC room and an 'outstanding' music block. It is built on a large, open site in a 'very pleasant' location on the western edge of the market town of Abingdon. There are 'extensive' playing fields, as well as a modern sports hall and a gymnasium. The school has a tradition of sporting success at every level, and won the National U16 Football Championship in 1996. It is also proud of the 'quality and range' of its musical and dramatic productions. Larkmead is part of a very active consortium, gaining access to a very wide range of courses and other opportunities. The school aims to have 'high academic standards and personal achievement'.
