General information

Background: The school on the existing site was founded in 1864. In order to perpetuate its close links with the church, the school changed its name in 1959, from Steventon School to St Michael's Church of England School. It is a thriving village school. The school has well-equipped classrooms, each with an interactive whiteboard, a library, a fully equipped computer suite and a hall which is used for serving school meals, for physical education and for assemblies. There is a school field that is used for games lessons and as a play area during lunch break. There is an open-air heated swimming pool used both during and after-school in the summer months. Pupils participate in group, individual or class activities, involving playing instruments and singing. The school has a choir and recorder groups taught by school staff where possible. In addition to the national curriculum subjects, there are cross-curricular themes that are central to the curriculum. These include citizenship, environmental education and personal, social and health education. Educational visits are arranged for classes whenever possible in conjunction with the current work. The school aims to provide the pupils with an experience of Christianity as a living tradition. The school believes that its ethos should be built upon a foundation of core values such as honesty, respect, happiness, responsibility, tolerance and peace.
