General information

Background: Wheatley Park School occupies a site in Holton Park with a Georgian mansion and extensive parklands, including a medieval moat and an ancient oak mentioned in the Doomsday Book. It draws pupils from a mixed rural and urban area immediately to the east of Oxford and a small part of Buckinghamshire. The school offers four languages including Latin. It has a vastly expanded computer network, installed in 2001, and a well-stocked library, which provides a centre for independent research and recreational reading. It has a wide range of sporting activities including cricket, soccer, rugby, hockey, volleyball, badminton, tennis, rounders, softball, athletics, gymnastics, trampolining, netball and basketball. The school aims to provide a secure and stimulating environment. The school is a specialist media arts college with particular strength in fine art and filmmaking. The sixth form is a particular strength, praised by Ofsted in 2003. The musical life of the school is very rich and numerous groups perform rock, pop and classical music. Learning is at the heart of the school and it has a strong focus on teamwork and peer support.
