General information

Background: Sir John Hunt Community College was opened as a comprehensive school in 1990 and quickly established a reputation for providing students with a high quality education in a happy, caring and supportive environment. Sir John Community Sports College is an 11-16 co-educational comprehensive school of 900 students. The college is situated on a very pleasant site some 6.5 kilometres north of the business and commercial centre of Plymouth. The college has high expectations of all its members - students, teaching and support staff. It also ensures that each student has unrestricted access to the whole curriculum. The college has eight networked computer rooms with filtered internet access. There are also numerous stand-alone computers. Students are taught to be critical and largely autonomous ICT users. It places strong emphasis on the role of extra-curricular activities in helping to develop the whole personality of each student. The college has a Devon County Council accredited scheme for Records of Achievement, which allows each student to record and collate their achievements, successes, skills and interests, both in and out of college. The current list of extra-curricular activities is wide and varied and includes: hockey, fitness, rugby, badminton, basketball, music, careers, dance, ICT, soccer, tennis and cookery. The aim of the college is to provide a sound education where the students are happy in a disciplined atmosphere.
