General information

Background: St Boniface was founded in 1895 and the current school in 'extensive grounds' in Yew Street was opened by Rt Hon Margaret Thatcher in 1972. It is situated in Lower Broughton, an inner city area of Salford where there are high levels of unemployment and social deprivation. Most pupils live close to the school, although some travel from beyond the immediate vicinity. The school has strong family links, generations of children often having attended the school. The building is 'bright and airy' and all classrooms are carpeted. Money is spent each year on a rolling programme of interior and exterior decoration. School teams participate in football, netball, rounders, athletics and swimming and the school recently won inter-school athletics and football competitions and came second in basketball. Pupils are also involved in raising money for charities. .
