General information

Background: Opened in 1884, Norwood continued to exist as separate infant and junior schools until 1988 when the two schools amalgamated and moved to a modern replacement building, which is on two levels. This is set in a large triangle of land offering 'unique opportunities for teaching'. The site contains a 'dense copse' of trees and Norwood shares a large playing field with another school. Many changes have been brought about as part of a 'detailed' grounds development plan, including the erection of pergolas to provide sun shaded areas for children. The school has recently being growing rapidly, but current government class size restrictions will reverse this process. Recent charity involvement has included a 'Coppers for Kosovo' project and the 'Love in a Box' scheme to send parcels to children overseas. Norwood is proud of its governors' annual report to parents, which has received a national award from the Times Educational Supplement on two separate occasions. The school has an 'active' parent teacher association which arranges social and fund raising activities, and a group of parents gives extra support in class. The school's live arts policy recommends the celebration of the arts on regular basis. To this end they hold a two-week arts festival every three years, when music, dance, drama, poetry and the visual arts are celebrated. .
