General information

Background: The school was opened in 1958 and quickly grew to a two-form entry in the 1960's, with two buildings and separate infant and junior departments. In the 1980's, numbers dropped dramatically due to the demolition of housing and problems within the school but results have improved over the last decade and numbers have risen steadily. The school offers a 'broad and balanced' curriculum based on the core subjects of the national curriculum. It also offers 'many' extra-curricular activities, many of which make use of the school's 'extensive' grouds. Sporting achievements include winning the football league in the 1999 season, and winning the Crosby small schools cross-country. The school has also been successful in athletics. Other clubs include cricket, hockey, chess, recorder and violin tuition. The school has 'strong links' with the local parish, being involved with the pensioners club and other church groups. Fund-raising activities include local and national charities, and parents are encouraged to be 'very much part of school life'. The school recently opened a new library which is staffed by parents and, as part of the NGFL, has installed a networked computer suite.
