Background: Founded in 1905, southwest of city centre. Split-site: Upper School in Grade II* listed building (1837); Lower School in Private Finance Initiative building (2001). Multicultural intake; broad-based curriculum, with all-round strengths. Specialist language college status from 1998; Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese. International links with Spain, Germany, France, Italy, United States, Japan, China, Poland, and Hungary. Exceptional sport, with 300 fixtures a year against other schools; City of Sheffield athletics champions for 13 successive years. Strong drama, music, outdoor education. Over-subscribed, with 1.3 applications per place. Health School Award (2005); Sportsmark (2005); DfES achievement award (2001, 2002, 2003); Training school status (2000, 2003).
