General information

Background: Dorridge Junior School was opened in 1955, near to the centre of Dorridge village. Its original building has been extended, creating 14 permanent classrooms, a sports pavilion overlooking the extensive playing field, a hall, a computerised library, learning support and audio visual room, and multi-media information technology room. Pupils are placed in ability sets for mathematics throughout the school, starting from Year 3, and there is grouping for English in Year 6. Extra-curricular activities include netball, football, rugby, cross-country, athletics, rounders, cricket, art and design, literature, drama, computers, chess, general knowledge, choir and guitar. There are also regular musical activities involving the 80 plus children who receive instrumental tuition at school from Solihull LEA's music service. Various teams in football and netball tournaments, rugby festivals, cross-country races, athletics meetings, chess tournaments and general knowledge quizzes have extensively represented the school. Every year, the school raises money for a particular charity over the space of a fortnight. The school also receives the support of a very active parent teacher association whose contribution to the overall life of the school is immense. Children's educational opportunities are further enhanced through a programmed of educational visits, visiting performers, authors and speakers, themed days and weeks regular staged by Years 4 and 6 (incorporating music, drama, dance and art and design) and performances by a variety of its groups at venues in and beyond Solihull. The school aims to provide a happy and caring community seeking to foster a close partnership with the home.
