General information

Background: Situated in Temple Balsall, in beautiful rural setting; founded by crusading knights; manor came into Crown hands and was inherited by Lady Anne Holbourne and Lady Katherine Leveson. School established in 1674 following bequest in Lady Katherine's will. Main building dates from 1876 and is Grade 2 listed. Well-designed modern extensions; new teaching block in 1997 added two spacious classrooms and smaller utility room. Strong focus on breadth of curriculum, including art and music; also uses modern foreign language tutors from local secondary schools. Close links with local communities; especially involved with supporting the elderly. Effective parent-teacher association; support for many charities. Choir represents school at many venues, including Symphony Hall. After-school care, unitl 5.30pm. Artsmark Silver (2003); Investor in People status (2004); DfES achievement award (2000, 2001, 2002). Ethos: 'The school strives to develop a learning environment in which all its children are enabled and encouraged to learn to the best of their ability.' .
