General information

Background: Langley School was built in 1974 and has been much extended since this time. The school?s accommodation includes seven science laboratories, a new technology area, a business education suite, seven computer rooms, video conferencing facilities, a modern languages laboratory, a large sports hall, a professional theatre with rehearsal rooms, the family learning centre (an ICT training centre), extensive playing fields, an award winning 'Langley Wood', a new humanities block, a resource centre for students with a physical disability and a centre for students with Specific Learning Difficulties, a newly extended Library, a music technology extension, two large atelier art studios, a dance studio, new RE, careers and ICT suites and a new media suite.Langley School provides an education for its children that goes beyond the confines of the classroom and reaches out into the community. There is a wealth of opportunity for children to engage in a range of activities. During a typical week there is a choice of some 40 clubs for children to participate in. These include everything from Jazz Band, Cross Country and Badminton to Art, Drama, Computers and Chess. School trips have included visits to Italy, Austria, France, Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic and Russia. Children are encouraged to involve themselves in their community and a flourishing Charities Committee helps to raise funds. In addition, 24 children participate in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme, and many others in Maths Challenges, the Borough Swimming and Athletic Championships, the Kielder Challenge, concerts and productions supported by the flourishing Young Arts Leader Award. There are also a variety of after-school sporting activities that pupils can opt for. Other activities include Work Experience, an Equal Opportunities Day, Youth Speaks and Magistrate Court competitions. Langley has often been described as a holistic school. The school aims to support children to become 'the best they can be' and to respect and encourage the talents of all.
