General information

Background: Monkspath School opened in 1986 and is now 'the largest primary school in Solihull'. It is housed in a 'very attractive' red brick building which has three courtyards, two playgrounds, a playing field and a conservation area. The gardens were planted by the pupils and parents and was the winner of the 'Best School Garden' at Solihull in Bloom, 1998. The school has opened a 'shade garden' to mark the millennium. The school is not only proud of its 'high academic success', but also of the extra-curricular activities it offers. These include football, netball, athletics, chess, recorders, choir, orchestra, French, aerobics and pottery. The netball team has been Solihull Champions and the boys six-a-side football team have also been champions. The girls six-a-side were the West Midlands runners-up, and the boys four-a-side and 11-a-side were also runners-up. The school has taken part in the Solihull Rounders Tournament and were runners-up, and in the Solihull athletics championships the school came third. The school were also semi-finalists in the Solihull General Knowledge Quiz. The school has 'many' community links and pupils are encouraged to support one main charity per year. 'Monkey's' childcare was established in 1998 as a 'wraparound' for the school nursery.' .
