General information
Background: Founded in 1903 as a convent boarding school, Our Lady of Compassion became a primary school in 1974. The school has a 'very distinct' Catholic ethos. The buildings are 'quite unique' and facilities include a nursery, large hall with stage, computer room, music room and technology room. The school 'endeavours to make everyone feel part of the school family'. Traditional team sports played in school include football, netball, cricket, rounders, uni-hoc and volleyball. A local company run a club before school from 8.00am and after school until 6.00pm providing care and activities for children. A variety of educational visits are organised for pupils and children in Year 6 have the opportunity to pay a week-long residential visit to a farm in Pembrokeshire. The school has a special educational needs (SEN) co-ordinator who provides support to children at stages two and three in small groups in a 'pleasant, quiet' room.
