General information
Background: Bishop Henderson, which is situated in a residential area of Taunton, was opened in 1974 with nine classrooms and a further four-class 'early years unit' was opened in 1990 bringing the total to 13 classrooms. The building, which is set in 'pleasant' surroundings is of modern design and has individual teaching bases and shared practical areas. There is also a 'large' hall for assembly and physical education and a smaller hall for drama and music hall. The school has 'large' grassed and hard court play areas with trees and other natural features suitable for developing environmental work. The entire site provides a 'light, open, pleasant working environment'. Extra-curricular activities are 'varied' and parents are advised to make their children 'choose wisely' from clubs like cricket, chess, environmental studies and computer club. Individual tuition is given on a 'wide range' of musical instruments. The school has a 'reputation for its strength' in the creative arts and performs 'consistently well' in local sporting events. Bishop Henderson is 'proud' to be a church school and is a 'hard-working and happy school'.
