General information

Background: Crispin School is a co-educational comprehensive school catering for the full ability range of children aged 11 to 16. In 1998 the school was named as the first Beacon School in Somerset and in 1999 it became a Specialist Technology College. In 2003 Crispin became Somerset's only Leading Edge school. The school has a large site with extensive playing fields, a large well equipped gymnasium and a sports hall, an excellent assembly hall and many specialist rooms, an environmental garden, three home economics and textiles rooms, art rooms and a pottery or art room, two music rooms, a dance or drama studio, four design technology rooms including a technology laboratory and a graphics room, four computer rooms and a well stocked learning resource centre and some 30 other classrooms. A lift has recently been installed into the tower block, which enables all the pupils with a physical disability to access all classrooms in that part of the school and also for the school hall. The school has a number of clubs, sports and out of school activities including art club, badminton, basketball, camping, Christian union, computing, cricket and drama. The music department has a splendid tradition of presenting a high standard of musical performance at an annual carol service in Well Cathedral at Christmas and other concerts during the year. The school aim is to provide a broad and balanced general education up to the age of 16, avoiding over-specialisation at too early an age. The school aims to provide a pleasant and stimulating environment for teaching and learning.
