General information
Background: The school takes its name from Hugh Sexey, auditor to Queen Elizabeth I and James I, who set up a foundation in Bruton in 1638. The current school is located in a rural setting overlooking the valley of River Brue, and celebrated its centenary in 1991. The school is housed in a core of Victorian buildings with additions including purpose-built classrooms, new laboratories, an art complex, sports hall and indoor swimming pool. Refurbished library and computer suits. A new sixth form centre will be opened in the autumn term. Sexey?s is one of the longest of the 32 state boarding schools with nearly 300 boarders. The school is a church of voluntary aided school in the diocese of Bath and Wells. Currently applying for humanities school status, the school is strong in most subject areas, with creativity a feature of our students. The school offers full range of extra curricular activities including overseas links and are currently exploring being an international school. The school aims to provide a calm, positive and purposeful environment. Its aim is to be like a large family with the children fully safe, secure and happy, yet challenged to be their best.
