General information

Background: Housed in a 1936 building, with a modern extension added in 1989; recent upgrade of sports facilities, traffic management and the general school environment. The Northern Ireland Amenity Council selected the school as the best-kept large school in 2004/5 in the Southern Education and Library Board area. A wide range of sports teams are offered to both boys and girls; individual and team games are strongly promoted; the girls' hockey team were Northern Ireland Primary School Mini-Hockey Champions (2006). More than 25 extra-curricular activities and clubs, including orienteering, soccer, rugby and hockey for boys and girls, computers, science, drama and cookery, choirs, netball, musical groups. Educational residential trips, both locally-based to outdoor pursuits centres and to Europe, are undertaken every year. The children present a major drama production and in 2007 Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat was performed over three nights. Children, parents and staff support a wide range of charities; more than £5,000 given to local charities as well as those in developing countries in 2006/7. The school supports a wide range of local community groups; premises used by local concert band, local branch of Royal National Lifeboat Institution, and the Lurgan Agricultural Show; the Salvation Army has long-established links with the school. Before-school care, from 7.30am; after-school care, until 6pm; also all-day holiday care is available. Over-subscribed, with 1.25 applications per place in pre-school department. Training school status (2005)(2006).
