General information

Background: The school is 'attractively situated' in the village of Walton on the Hill, adjacent to farmland and Cannock Chase. Berkswich serves the communities of Walton on the Hill, Brocton, Milford and Bednall Head. It is 'a community where each person is valued and helped to develop his/her full potential as an individual, within a stimulating and caring environment'. Extra-curricular activities are predominantly offered by teachers and non-teaching staff, in their own time and on a voluntary basis. They include the recorder, choir, indoor board games, football, netball, chess and country dancing. Pre- and after-school care is provided. The headteacher is the special educational needs (SEN) co-ordinator for the school, and works in conjunction with class teachers, ancillary and welfare staff to make sure that children receive adequate support. Before-school care, from 8am; after-school care, until 5.30pm. Over-subscribed, with 1.3 applications per place. Beacon status (2001); Charter mark (2003); Basic Skills Quality Mark (2005); DfES achievement award. Ethos: 'A caring Christian learning community in which everyone is valued.' .
