General information

Background: Colwich School was founded in 1827, became a secondary school in 1935 and changed to a primary in 1958. New buildings and offices were added in 1975 with the expansion of Little Haywood. The school serves the rural village of Colwich and Little Haywood. Most pupils come from privately owned homes and a large proportion of parents are professional people who commute to work. With the introduction of the voucher system the school formed an Early Years Unit in 1997 for the mornings only. The junior chior attended a musical workshop with the composer Andrew Carter and performed 'Benedicite' with Stafford Choral Society. Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 participated in a millenium concert in Lichfield Cathdral. The school regularly contributes items to the parish magazine such as poems. Pupils have represented local clubs in skiing and have attended the all-England Games. 'Many' pupils play for local football clubs, for example the Stafford Rangers junior section. The school is proud of having been a pilot school in the LEA Top Sport Project and holds training sessions for hockey, tennis, football and cricket using qualified coaches. It has 'strong links' with the church, using the building and personnel as a teaching resource. The school presents produce at the Harvest Festival Service which is later distributed to the local community. Pupils are also encouraged to raise funds for various charities.
