General information

Background: Langdale mainly serves the Clayton and Westlands area of Newcastle under Lyme, although children do come from further afield and the school is currently over-subscribed. Situated in a residential area, the school aims to provide a 'happy, enjoyable and successful place of learning'. There are eight classrooms, a small group teaching room, a music room and a hall which is used for assembly, gymnastics, drama and school meals. The school has a hard-surfaced playground, including netball courts, together with 'extensive' playing fields used for 'numerous' sporting activities. The curriculum is 'balanced and broadly based' and is supported by a 'variety' of extra-curricular opportunities. These include choir, recorder group, netball, football, cricket, rounders, gymnastics, chess, library, judo and French. There are also opportunities to receive musical tuition and all children have the opportunity to participate in a 'large number' of sporting activities. Langdale prides itself in taking part in a 'wide variety' of competitive sport and has been 'very successful' in recent years. From time to time there are educational excursions to local places of interest and all Year 6 pupils are offered the chance of a week's residential experience at an outdoor centre. There is also an 'extensive' range of cultural opportunities on offer, including participation in local festivals. All parents are automatically members of the Parent-Teacher Association, which raises money through social events to buy resources for the school. 'We recognise that change and progress are an important part of everyday life and therefore aim to equip children to cope and flourish in dealing with such challenges.' .
