General information

Background: Painsley Roman Catholic College is a voluntary aided Catholic high school for boys and girls aged 11 to 18 serving the rural Staffordshire Moorlands and parts of the city of Stoke-on-Trent. The school was founded in 1964 and is set on a campus with extensive grounds in an ideal location in the market town of Cheadle. Excellent facilities include new Chapel and Chaplain?s room, drama and assembly hall, seven well-equipped science laboratories, special language rooms, art and pottery studios, preparation rooms, reprographics room, five craft, design and technology workshops, modern sixth form centre, gymnasium, tennis and netball courts, playing fields, an all-weather pitch and music suite including specialist practice rooms and recording studio. It is a Beacon school. Painsley is particularly noted for its music, sporting and drama achievements. All sports are covered but it has a national reputation for swimming, gymnastics and hockey. There is also a wide range of extra-curricular provision: voluntary mass/Eucharistic services, justice and peace group, foreign languages groups, young engineers? club, technology club, history club and environmental club. Many educational trips, including visits abroad, are also organised. These include: fieldwork expeditions, hockey trips abroad, residential retreat courses and many visits to theatres, museums and exhibitions. Painsley combines traditional values with a commitment to growth. The school?s mission statement stress its Christian ethos and climate, the uniqueness of the individual child, its belief in Gospel values, a commitment to excellence, a concentration on strengths and the quality of relationships. Christ is the foundation of the whole educational process at Painsley.
