General information
Background: Woodhouse High School was opened in 1971 as Tamworth's first purpose-built mixed comprehensive high school. Since that time there have been extensions and improvements. The range of activities, clubs and organisations which pupils may become involved in varies from year to year. The school's sports centre, heated swimming pool, floodlit all-weather playing surface and tennis courts are all designated dual use facilities and serve a wide range of local clubs and groups, sometimes hosting competitions of national importance. The school's 330 seat theatre provides a regular venue for its musicals, concerts and plays, and is much sought after by local organisations. Other highlights include drama and recording studios, state-of-the-art computer equipment for the whole school network, specialist design and technology centre, a suite of art studios, a 32 station language laboratory and nine science laboratories. Each department has its own suite of rooms. A wide range of links with local industry and the business community continues to be developed. The school was one of the first in Staffordshire to gain the prestigious Staffordshire Partnership Award for outstanding school industry links. The school aims at promoting the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental, emotional and physical development of the pupils at school and also aims at preparing them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life.
