General information
Background: Bury St Edmunds County Upper School was founded in 1904 as a secondary school and pupil teacher centre. It moved to its current site in 1964 and has been, since 1972, a mixed, community upper school. It has a full range of buildings built from 1964 through to 1999 and a further half a million pound building programme is planned for 2004/5. Along with the buildings the school has extensive playing fields, tennis/netball courts, a multi games all weather pitch and two sports halls. The school has been a technology college since 1997 and has particular strength in information technology. The school offers Japanese to GCSE and AS level. As a winner of several Awards it takes part in the French, German and Japanese exchanges, ski trip, Duke of Edinburgh?s Award and debating. Each year the school raises over 10,000 pounds in its Christmas Charity Fortnight.
