General information

Background: Rural school on northern edge of village of East Bergholt, on 20-acre site surrounded by fields and greenery, few minutes from A12 between Ipswich and Colchester in the Dedham Vale. Buildings erected in three stages in 1957, 1971 and 1981; older buildings modernised and refurbished in recent years. Extensive facilities include community sports centre and swimming pool. Over-subscribed. Beacon status; DfES achievement award in 2002. Registered as Young Enterprise school; links with local business community. Education Extra award for extra-curricular activities, including conservation and Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme; Schools Curriculum Award in 1997; Investor in People status. 'Strong' pastoral scheme; log books used to monitor achievement and progress. 'The school is a lively and purposeful community, with high standards and expectations.
