General information

Background: Nacton Primary is housed in buildings which date back to 1911 and are of historic interest, in particular for their unusual pargeting. The school is situated at the heart of an 'attractive' rural village near the river Orwell. Its grounds include a playing field, a pond, paved area for 'floor chess', a tarmaced playground and an adventure climbing area. Music plays an 'important part' in the life of the school with all pupils involved in seasonal productions. The brass band, which involves every member of Years 5 and 6, is 'in popular demand' at local functions. After school clubs include football, netball, rounders, cricket, athletics and cross country running. Matches are played against local schools and Nacton won the netball tournament in 1999. Boys and girls play together in teams and the school recently played host to a series of football skills sessions led by Ipswich Town Community Football. The school has an 'excellent relationship' with the local community and church. Every Tuesday an act of collective worship is led by a member of the church. Collections are held for charities before which a representative of that charity will come and talk in the school. Nacton has been awarded the School Curriculum Award for its work with the Federation of Small Schools in linking with a nearby special school for which pupils make books and games. Five out of seven year-groups are over-subscribed.
