General information

Background: Northgate High School is a mixed comprehensive community school, catering for pupils aged 11 to 18. The school is situated on a 33-acre site on the north-eastern edge of Ipswich, the largest town in the predominantly rural county of Suffolk. The school in its present form evolved from the 1977 merger of Northgate Girls? and Boys? Grammar Schools and has benefited from an extensive rebuilding programme between 1986 and 1992. This has provided separate purpose-built lower school, middle school, sixth form Language, science and technology and reforming arts centres where Suffolk?s county music and performing arts services are also based. All pupils in year seven to nine follow a curriculum, which includes English, mathematics, French, German, Spanish, history, geography, science, art, music, drama and Physical Education. Northgate has strong educational foundations and a proud history, which continues to grow year by year. The school aims to provide a happy, secure and caring environment.
