General information
Background: Whatfield School is a Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School for boys and girls. The school was built in 1857. The buildings were extended in 1997 and we plan to extend the school in the very near future. The school makes regular use of the neighbouring large village hall for P.E. lessons, assemblies and lunches. The playground has basketball nets and we have an extensive school playing field with football pitch, conservation areas, woodland areas and a variety of smaller play areas including an area with play equipment. We are proud of our community links and invite members of the local community to a range of activities during the school year, such as a strawberry tea, Christmas entertainment, nativity church service and many other productions and events. We have recently run many fund-raising events to raise money for our extension, these have included Dog Racing evenings, jumble sales, family christmas meal, fetes, abseiling, driving challenges, sponsored swims and many more. All of these events have been supported by parents, local people and local businesses, all helping to strengthen our links with the local community. We also choose one charity every year to raise money for, this year it is the Ipswich Children's Hospice. The school exists to serve the community and in particular the young children living in it. It is a partnership between parents, staff, governors and the local LEA to promote the development of the children. The school is characterised by its friendly, welcoming and caring approach, offering its members a stimulating environment in which every child can feel safe and valued. The school aims to encourage respect and care for one another with a view to creating a happy, pleasant and secure environment.
