General information

Background: Highworth Warneford was established in 1975 to replace a secondary modern that had served the area since 1957. It is set on the edge of high ground, looking across the Vale of the White Horse to the Ridgeway and Berkshire Downs. 'Substantial' additions to its buildings were made in the 1970s. The school is proud of its facilities for design technology, science, information technology and music, and of its large purpose-built library. It is a 'popular school that is very full' and is over-subscribed, with more than 190 applications for 180 places. Modern languages and information technology are among its strengths and it also offers the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. The school has a parent-teacher association and organises consultation meetings with parents, with topics such as the format of school reports, sex education policy, and programmes for social and personal education.
