General information

Background: Southfields Community College is a mixed comprehensive school for students aged 11 to 19. The school has gained Sports College Status in 2000. It has strong links with its feeder primary schools and has developed ways of helping pupils make the transition from primary school to secondary. Throughout the college students have access to the on-site Wandsworth City Learning Centre, interactive whiteboards, a multimedia computer suite and after-hours learning. There are four computer suits. The design and technology department has recently refurbished workshops. There is a resources area in the library for independent student study. Other facilities include CD-ROMS, a graphic scanner and colour copier, television and video facilities, video cameras and computer-controlled robotics. Sporting facilities including two gymnasia, a swimming pool, playing fields, and tennis and netball courts. Clubs and support clinics are run in mathematics, English, science, geography, history, design and technology, modern languages, art, business information technology, integrated learning, homework, and the library. Societies and other activities include Amnesty International Group, drama, instrumental tuition, choir, band, chess and debating. The aim of the college is for students and staff to accept the challenges of learning so that students leave with the knowledge, skills and maturity to take up their adult roles.
