General information

Background: Founded in 1877; present school built in 1958 with two separate additions in later years. Seven classrooms with large hall, new library extension in 1999. Set in the rural village of Croft, surrounded by green belt land. Awarded the 'green flag' award in 1996 for work in conserving and preserving the environment; awarded for a further two years in 1999. A variety of extra-curricular activities includes art, badminton, football, netball, gymnastics and music; at lunch times there is a Young Amnesty group, French and story time. Supportive parent-teacher association. Parents welcome to help in lessons. The aim of the school is to 'interpret human knowledge to its pupils in the light of the Gospel.' Raises more than £1,000 each year for good causes including The Nugent Care Society and the Zoe's Place children's hospice. Strong community links and pupils sing at local old people's homes. Beacon status; Basic Skills Quality Mark; Investor in People status; DfES achievement award. Ethos: 'The school sees itself as a community of love and learning. Its ethos is reflected in its mission statement, which encourages peopel to respect themselves and others. It ensures each person will make the best use of their gifts and talents.' .
