General information

Background: Completed in 1896, the original school building was recently demolished and its foundation stone (with date) incorporated into the boundary wall. Hurley Primary is now housed in a one-storey 1960s style building with six indoor and one free standing classroom, a library, a small group room, hall, kitchen and offices, as well as a nursery on site. 'Spacious' playing fields surround the school and as the village is in a rural setting on a hill, the fields have 'far reaching' views. The school offers a range of sports and takes part in inter-area events, in addition to hosting the area cross-country. Swimming is part of the curriculum from Year 2. The curriculum, which often uses local resources for stimulus, is supported by educational visits and a 'range' of extra-curricular activities including gymnastics, crafts and sports. The information and communications technology (ICT) suite is used by all classes to ensure 'good grounding' in use of computers and independent use by the end of Key Stage 2. There is a 'supportive' governing body with the 'largest possible' group of members and an 'active' parent and teacher association that 'annually' raises money for the school. The community is also 'very supportive' of school events.
