General information
Background: Opened in 1959; located in Shottery on outskirts of Stratford; and draws pupils from a 17-mile radius; small, selective community school with large sixth form for its size, some sixth-formers having come from other schools. Set in attractive grounds, once the orchard gardens of 14th-century Shottery Manor, in which sixth-form centre now based. Three modern teaching blocks sited in Manor grounds. Stratford Language Centre opened in 2003; used in evenings by community. Formal twinning agreement signed in 2004 with Japanese school. Stratford Academy of Music opened in spring 2006. The school values academic excellence, but also enables girls to develop individual talents and gifts by offering wide range of activities in the UK and abroad. Over-subscribed. Specialist language college status from September 2002; Sportsmark (1998); DfES achievement award (2001, 2002, 2003). Ethos: 'The school aims to provide a caring, challenging community, which respects the individual, has consideration for others and enables each and every girl to develop and maximise their full potential.' .
