General information

Background: St Bartholomew's School is founded in 1466. It is an 11-18 comprehensive school serving Newbury, a wide area of West Berkshire and the Hampshire/Wiltshire borders. The lifelong learning centre, a purpose-built conference and training facility, including two fully equipped information and communication technology rooms were opened in November 2002. The school's music department offers junior and senior choir, chamber groups, junior and intermediate bands, a big band and an annual drama production. The school provides sports, which include rugby, soccer, hockey, cricket, lacrosse, netball, rounders, tennis, athletics, swimming, and cross-country. Matches are played against other schools both in the evenings and at weekends. There is a strong house system and senior students provide much of the leadership and organisation in drama, music and sport competitions. Each house raises money for local charities and all students are encouraged to participate. The school has a wide range of after-school activities, which includes sports, computer club, mathematics club, Latin (for years 10 and 11), music and outdoor education. The school is an exciting place to learn, develop new skills and open up a promising future.
