General information

Background: This village Church of England Voluntary Controlled school is a small school of five classes, where 'all the children are known by all of the staff'. Pupils are encouraged to feel that they are part of a 'whole-school family, and care for and support each other'. The school dates back to 1707 and is accommodated in a modernised Victorian building situated between the A4 and Box Recreation Ground, which also serves as the school field. The school follows the national curriculum and there are opportunities for Key Stage 2 children and some Key Stage 1 children to take part in the following extra-curricular activities: guitar, keyboard and recorder lessons, choir, netball, football, rounders, art and drama clubs. There is a small charge to cover costs for some of these activities. There is also the opportunity to take part in a Cycling Proficiency programme after the age of nine. Children in Class 5 have an opportunity to take part in a bi-annual residential visit of five days' duration during the summer term. This provides an 'excellent opportunity' for environmental study linked to the year's topic work, and for first-hand experience of aspects of science, geography and history that are not available in school. The school maintains close links with the Church and with the community.
