General information

Background: Built in 1967 to serve a private housing estate near Chippenham town centre, the school stands in 'very attractive' grounds that once formed part of the estate of Monkton House. The over-subscribed school has grown rapidly over the last few years, but still maintains 'a happy, vital, stimulating' environment. Children are taught in classes, small groups, pairs or individually, and learning from experience is encouraged, with a networked computer in every classroom. The number of pupils with Special Educational Needs is above average, and they receive 'respect and encouragement' from staff who are all trained in this area. The recorder is taught through the Froseth system and pupils sing in musical productions at school and in the wider community. 'Excellent' sporting facilities have helped pupils to play successfully in inter-school netball and football tournaments. A sports day every summer allows children to compete against each other as members of one of four houses. The school has a 'lively impact' on the community, extending many fundraising events into the local area. A 'happy relationship' is sought with parents, who can assist with social and fundraising events as part of the 'very hard working' and 'invaluable' School Association.
