General information

Background: Maiden Erlegh opened in 1962 as a small secondary modern and then expanded to become a comprehensive in the early 1970s. Located in the residential suburbs of Wokingham, near to the university, this nine-form-entry school is comprised of modern purpose-built teaching blocks. Facilities include a drama studio, equipped and with stage lighting, arts centre and eight networked computer suites equipped with PCs. There is a flourishing house system which involves many students in sporting and cultural activities. Other extra-curricular activities include musical groups, drama groups, Christian Union, debating, sailing, chess, Young Enterprise and Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, subject based clubs, board games and fund raising for charity. There are several school trips each year, including exchange visits to France and Germany. The school is also joint owner of an Outdoor Education Centre in South Wales, providing 'first class' opportunities for abseiling, archery, caving, gorge scrambling, kayaking, mountaineering, mountain-biking, open canoeiing, rock climbing and orienteering. Artsmark; Artsmark Gold (2002); Sportsmark; DfES achievement award.
