General information

Background: Formerly Gannow Middle, which opened in 1958, it became Holywell Primary and Nursery in 2001. The school is situated in an 'almost rural' location at the foot of Waseley Country Park. The building are 'generally in a good state of repair' and the grounds are 'extensive and picturesque'. Most rooms have views of countryside and 'much' wildlife, including squirrels, rabbits, horses, cows and dogs. is a 'very happy' school and 'extremely popular' in the area. 'Children love coming to school and parents almost fight to get places!' The headteacher has 'dramatically altered' the school since her appointment. Academic achievement has 'risen', and curriculum planning, continuity and progression are 'strengths' of the school. There is an 'excellent team spirit' and the 'professionalism of staff is superb'. Extra-curricular activities include football, netball, cross-countyr, basketball, athletics, chess, choir and orchestra. The football team is 'a worry to other school teams when drawn against them'. Each year the choir sings at the Christmas party for old people and charity work has involved a fun-run sponsored event and fund-raising for Meningitis Research. The school is oversubscribed and there are 10 people on the current waiting list. .
